In Negative Times, Jobseekers Need to Stay Positive

I advise my coaching clients to follow the news so they can talk intelligently about current events during job interviews.  At the same time, today’s news is so gloomy and anxiety-provoking that I almost feel like changing that advice.  It can be a challenge but what you really need to do is stay abreast of current events, but filter out the negativity so you can to stay positive.   Teresa Odle captured my sentiments very nicely in her recent piece on Disaster Planning

In times of turmoil and chaos, there are great opportunities for those who are vigilant, prepared and ready to go.  Enthusiasm and assuredness are always attractive, but never moreso than when everyone else is anxious and scared.  In negative times, the ability to stay positive is a great competitive advantage.
